Materials Storage question - Guild Wars Forums

I just started playing GW, and I currently only have Prophecies. I'm definitely going to buy Nightfall, but I don't have Factions. The problem I'm asking about is storage, since my inventory is overflowing (it seems really limited).

I can use the Xunlai Storage agents that are in Prophecies, but that's only 20 spaces, most of which is taken up by my materials. What I need is that Materials Storage upgrade they recently added. But I read that there is no way to buy the extra Materials storage upgrade in Prophecies -- that requires owning Factions and taking a character to Cantha.

So, my question is this: My Nightfall preorder came with a Factions trial key. If I used the Factions trial on my account, and took my character to Cantha to buy the extra Materials storage upgrade during the trial, would I still have access to that Materials storage once the trial ended? Or would it be locked off til I bought Factions?

I ain't sure about it. But i think once you bought the storage for 50g, you'll be able to enter it whenever you want, as you will always have guildwars factions installed, even if you can't play it anymore, you just need to talk to the Xunlai representative once, never again. I suggest you just try it out.

Tell me if I was right or wrong.

Remember that ALL of your characters must talk to the upgrade agent and pay the fee for each one to have the expanded storage.

yeah, thinking about what Kane OG said, if you take materials you have there during the faction trial and store them in the material storage, you could potentially lose access to all the materials in there, but if you have an open slot, i believe once you buy the material storage once your pvp chars can access it, but as you said, im not sure if it would still be available to you (your pvp chars) or be hold in limbo till you buy factions.

If you try this please do it with materials you don't mind losing. I suspect that once the Faction key expires you will lose the material storage tab completely.

I agree with Pkest it is best to be safe and not load up the ectos before the trial ends, but there are 3 reasons I think it is likely that you will keep the materials tab after teh expiration. First is since I can access the materials tab at the Xunlai agent in a Tyrian town, I think you will continue to be able to access them there. Second I believe Nightfall will have access to that tab anyway, so you are probably safe in a few weeks. Third is I just dont give the designers/programmers enough credit to believe they thought of that security hole and wasted resources checking for a valid factions key every time that you go to a Xunlai. I think it is more likely they just check the character flag that gets set when you buy the storage tab.

Just an opinion, though.

All right, I really appreciate the info and opinions. I'm going to try it out and will update here once I see what happens!

Which raises another question about the Factions trial -- it's 14 days, or 10 hours of playtime. I'm assuming that means playtime on a Factions character? Like many of you suggested, I don't want to lose anything valuable if I store it in Materials. So if playing my regular Prophecies character counts towards the 10 hours, I could be in for an unpleasant surprise.

It's 14 days or 10 hours of playtime, PERIOD. The trial key that came with the Nightfall Prerelease gives access to both Prophecies and Factions, so once you pass that 10 hour mark, poof goes the key.

I do not know about the trial keys, but during the preview they had a grace period before the stuff is deleted. My dervish is still happily taking up a slot and should a few weeks after nigfall release (assuming I did not purchase Nightfall).

If the bone makes it I would be mostly content with quite a few of the normal crafting materials - it took me less than a week to gather 250 of most of them. High dollar and/or hard to find would still be in my "safe" storage for a few months (assuming nightfall doesn't have access to the expanded storage).

I give the programmers enough credit to have thought of it, though I do not know if they care enough to have done it as such.

I await the fate of the bone.

Because its an incentive (or reward, however you want to look at it) to buy Factions. I think its safe to assume that Nightfall will also have something unique to it that players who dont buy Nightfall wont have access to.

Personally, I think this is a good thing, it adds value for those who own Factions but thats just my opinion.

Nightfall's big incentive is the skill templates. Faction's incentive is the material storage. Prophecies incentive is the fact that it's Prophecies!

I've heard of someone in my old alliance doing this, and It working.

See, he said the storage isn't LINKED to having Factions, They just made it to where it is only avialable in Factions cities (Shing Jea and Kaineng), so if your characters ever go to these cities then they can keep it if they buy it.

Theres no way I can confirm or deny his claim though, and I dont even remember his name, he has just saying it in allaince chat.

I'm not sure that skill templates are going to be limited to only Nightfall owners. This seems like a UI thing that will be improved for all, just like the green flags directing henchman where to go.

I don't think you could say each chapter has "a specific incentive" to buy it, but perhaps many things. One such thing is the heroes that are only for owners of Nightfall.

It would probably work, but only for the characters you bring to Cantha and get it with. If you only get it with one character, that is the only character that will have access to it. If you bring all your characters to get it, then all of them will get it, but if you remake any of them, or make new characters, then those remade/new characters won't have access to it.

Hmmm, I guess technically, if you kept getting things like this free trial thing and using them, then you could have the same storage as someone with all the chapters.... Seems sortof like a glitch or something that needs to be fixed to me...

Like he said, it is insentive for buying Factions. It has nothing to do with Prophecies. If you just get Factions, you still have access to the extra materials storage, even if that is the only chapter you own.

1 comment i need to make concerning the Storage Upgrade's..

I own all 3 games (GW:P, GW:F & GW:N) and in Kamadan City there was a Storage Upgrade NPC.. paid my 50 gold for my Nightfall characters to get material storage tab.

Don't know if Nightfall came with the storage upgrade, or whether it's there & I can use it because I have Faction's as well.

So, the Nightfall patch came out and included Materials Storage for all campaigns. Kinda put the kibosh on my test. In the time between the trial's 14 days ending and NF coming out, which was only like a week, I didn't get any GW playtime in. So... the world may never know the answer to my original question, but it's a moot point anyway!

Thanks again for all the replies. Even with materials storage, a mule character has been necessary. (That, and I'm still learning what's valuable and how best to sell it.)
